Mission Produce absorbed Calavo and became a $2 billion company. Here's how the combined avocado giant actually works now.

Mission Produce completed its acquisition of Calavo Growers earlier this year, creating a combined entity with approximately $2 billion in pro forma revenue. The combined company now operates four packinghouses in Mexico — including a new direct presence in Jalisco — alongside its existing California supply base, giving it one of the broadest avocado sourcing footprints in North America. CEO John Pawlowski says the integrated network is already being used to optimize inventory positioning and better match supply with demand across the combined customer base.

The deal is significant beyond avocados. Mission is leveraging its expanded distribution infrastructure to carry a wider fresh produce portfolio including mangoes, tomatoes, papayas, and prepared foods. U.S. avocado consumption reached record levels in 2026, trending above 10 pounds per capita, and the company sees continued upside driven by health-focused eating trends and GLP-1 medication adoption increasing consumer interest in nutrient-dense foods.

For buyers and category managers, the Mission-Calavo combination means dealing with a much larger, more vertically integrated supplier with deeper grower relationships and greater flexibility to manage supply across origins. As the company enters its first full Mexico avocado season as a combined entity, watch for how it uses its scale to manage pricing and promotional programs compared to the pre-merger landscape.
