Organic berry supply is holding — but tomatoes and mangoes are getting tight right now

Organic strawberries and raspberries out of Salinas and Santa Maria are steady, with promotable pricing available despite some bruising from summer heat. Organic blueberry supply is also in good shape. The real story is on the other side: organic tomato and mango supplies are tightening, pushing prices higher.

The tomato squeeze is notable given how much volume moves through organic programs at retail. Tighter supply paired with continued consumer demand means margin pressure is building for buyers who haven't locked in sourcing. Mango tightness aligns with the broader conventional mango shortage that's been building throughout the summer.

For category managers running organic programs, now is a good time to assess exposure on tomatoes and mangoes specifically. Berry categories look promotional-ready, which could help offset any gaps elsewhere in the organic department.
