Blueberry prices are softening as Pacific Northwest supply peaks — avocado sizing is still the wildcard

Pacific Northwest blueberry production is ramping up and putting downward pressure on prices across the U.S. market. The seasonal supply increase is running across domestic regions including Washington and Oregon, following a strong growing season. Elsewhere, the market report notes limited availability of larger avocado sizes is continuing to support pricing in that category.

This is the predictable mid-summer transition point for blueberries, but the breadth and pace of the price easing matters for buyers who locked in volume at higher early-season prices. The overlap with Peruvian and BC supply creates a well-supplied market environment for the near term.

Watch for how long this price softness holds — if the BC crop or Pacific Northwest harvest comes in heavier than expected, the pressure on prices could extend further into August than usual.
