Cantaloupe supply is dangerously thin — shippers are calling around looking for help covering orders

Cantaloupe supply out of Yuma is exceptionally tight, with demand far exceeding what growers can provide. Legend Produce's Justin Bootz says the company is fielding calls from other shippers and retailers alike, all looking for additional volume to fill orders — a clear sign the shortage is widespread, not isolated.

The Yuma growing region has delivered lower-than-expected yields this season, creating a supply gap that is keeping prices elevated. The pressure is hitting buyers across the board as summer melon demand ramps up heading toward peak retail season.

Watch for pricing to stay firm until the next regional transition brings meaningful new volume online. Retailers planning Fourth of July promotions around cantaloupe should be moving quickly to secure commitments.
