Ontario's apple crop survived a wild spring — but expect regional variability when harvest arrives

Ontario apple growers are cautiously optimistic heading into the 2026 harvest after a season marked by significant weather volatility. Grower Chris Hedges says the province experienced "up and down weather through the spring," consistent with conditions across much of Eastern North America, and while the overall crop outlook is positive, volume variability from region to region is expected.

Ontario is a key apple-producing province supplying both Canadian and northeastern U.S. markets, and regional variability in volume can complicate procurement planning — particularly for buyers who rely on consistent supply from specific growing areas.

With harvest approaching, this is a situation worth monitoring closely. If certain regions underperform, it could tighten availability on specific varieties and affect pricing in eastern Canadian and U.S. markets during the fall push.
