Philippine pineapples could soon have broader U.S. market access — final approval is close

The Philippines is expecting the U.S. to lift existing entry restrictions on Philippine pineapple imports later this year, according to Bureau of Plant Industry Director Glenn Panganiban. The federal registry process is described as being in its final stage, with officials anticipating clearance if no further issues arise.

Pineapples are a high-volume tropical staple in North American retail and foodservice. Any expansion of approved import sources can affect pricing dynamics and give buyers more sourcing flexibility, particularly as demand for fresh-cut and whole pineapple remains strong.

Watch for a formal USDA or APHIS announcement confirming the rule change. Importers and category managers sourcing tropical fruit should track the timing — new supply from the Philippines could shift volume patterns and competitive pricing once access is granted.
