Lemons are tight right now — limited supply and strong demand are pushing the domestic market higher

The domestic lemon market is elevated due to extremely limited supplies paired with strong demand, according to a market update from Produce Blue Book. At the same time, larger lime sizes are becoming more available, offering some relief on that side of the citrus category.

Lemons have been under pressure from a combination of reduced California production and sustained foodservice and retail pull. The contrast with limes — where sizing is improving — means buyers are navigating a split citrus market heading into mid-summer.

Watch for lemon prices to stay firm in the near term given the supply constraints. Buyers sourcing lemons for summer programs may want to lock in coverage early, while lime procurement looks more flexible on larger sizes.
