Tropical Storm Arthur hit Georgia hard — growers are still counting the damage

Following Tropical Storm Arthur last week, growers and shippers across Georgia are conducting crop assessments to gauge the extent of damage. Reports from the southwest part of the state describe a serious stretch of weather over four days including rain, high winds, and other storm impacts.

Georgia is a significant summer supply region for multiple crops including sweet corn, peaches, and vegetables. Storm damage during active harvest periods can lead to volume shortfalls, quality issues, and logistical delays that ripple into nearby markets quickly.

Assessments are still ongoing, so the full picture isn't clear yet. Buyers sourcing Georgia product should stay in close contact with their shippers over the next several days as field reports come in.
