Ica and Arequipa are critical growing regions for Peruvian grapes, asparagus, and blueberries — crops that move in significant volumes into North American retail. Unusual rainfall in these zones during the Southern Hemisphere spring development period can affect fruit set and quality heading into peak export windows.
No major damage has been confirmed yet, but this is worth watching given how much North American supply depends on Peruvian and Chilean production in the fall and winter. Any escalation could affect availability and pricing for key import commodities.
