Mexico's Michoacán state has closed its 2025–2026 avocado season with a total production of nearly 1.46 million tons, of which 1.25 million tons were exported to the United States. An additional 211,610 tons went to other international markets. The state remains the dominant supplier of avocados to U.S. retail and foodservice.
The season was far from smooth — USDA suspended inspections in Michoacán earlier this summer over security concerns, briefly halting exports before a resolution was reached that included permanent security monitoring. Despite that disruption, export volumes to the U.S. were still substantial, though prior reporting has noted the season closed roughly 27% below last year's totals.
As the new season begins, watch for whether the security monitoring framework holds and whether export pace recovers. Buyers planning avocado programs for fall should have a clear picture of current Michoacán inventory levels and whether sourcing needs to be supplemented from Jalisco or other origins.
