Aldi announced $86 million in fall price reductions starting September 23, bringing nearly one-third of its everyday in-store assortment below 2025 price levels. The fresh produce cuts are notable: Honeycrisp apples are now $1.99 per pound, down 35% from last year and their lowest everyday price in more than five years. Also included are Autumncrisp grapes, Bartlett pears, Brussels sprouts, butternut and spaghetti squash, fresh herbs, and garlic. Reductions run through at least November 3.
The timing is strategic. As consumers increasingly cite value as their top grocery consideration, Aldi is leaning into its core proposition aggressively heading into fall. With more than 2,600 stores and the fastest expansion pace in the sector, Aldi's pricing moves carry real market weight — competitors and suppliers both take notice.
For produce category managers and salespeople, Aldi's fall cuts signal what the retailer expects to promote heavily this season. Watch whether these price points create pressure on competing retailers to match in the apple, grape, and squash categories.
