Wholesum's new cucumber pouch cuts condensation and proved itself at Sprouts this spring

Wholesum has introduced a new advanced moisture-management packaging for its organic snacking cucumber line, developed in partnership with StePacPPC. The Xgo PAZ pouch is designed to absorb excess condensation that builds up inside conventional packaging — a common issue that makes cucumbers look wet and unappetizing before they're even purchased. The packaging was piloted at Sprouts Farmers Market in spring 2026 and showed improved sell-through alongside reduced product loss from deterioration.

Snacking cucumbers are a high-velocity item in the organic produce set, and first impressions at the shelf drive purchase decisions quickly. Condensation is a known friction point for both retailers and consumers — product that looks wet signals poor quality even when the cucumber itself is fine. Testing showed better quality retention at the end of 16-day shelf-life evaluations, with reductions in excess moisture, decay, and mold compared to conventional packaging.

For category managers and buyers evaluating organic cucumber programs heading into 2027, the Sprouts pilot results are worth asking about in more detail. Packaging innovations that demonstrably reduce shrink while improving visual presentation are increasingly relevant as retailers look for ways to protect margins in fresh organic categories.
