Peru's grape season is off to a massive start: 3 million boxes shipped, up 114% from last year

Peru exported 3 million boxes — about 24,691 tons — of table grapes from the start of the 2026/27 season through week 39, more than double the 1.4 million boxes shipped in the same period last year, according to the Peruvian Association of Table Grape Producers and Exporters. The northern region of Piura is driving the surge, accounting for 60% of total volume, followed by Arequipa at 27%. The most widely exported varieties are Red Globe at 37% of total exports and Sweet Globe at 29%.

The top destination market is Colombia at 29% of exports, followed by the Netherlands at 13% and Mexico at 12%. The U.S. market doesn't appear prominently in the early-season destination data, though this is consistent with Peruvian grapes building toward their typical peak U.S. arrival window later in the season. Certified production area for the current season stands at 7,376 hectares with 88% in northern regions.

The 114% volume surge is notable context for buyers planning for the November-December import window. Peru's early-season pace suggests a meaningful supply increase is on the way, which could affect pricing dynamics for imported table grapes heading into the holidays — especially relevant given that Kroger cited Peruvian grape sourcing as a live example in its direct-sourcing strategy announced this week.
